Smalec - Polish Spread

Smalec is the classic Eastern European lard spread – creamy pork fat with small pieces of pork, onion and fried onion for a crunchy, salty bite. The flavour is rich and rustic, with hints of garlic and herbs. Best served cold on dark, dense bread.

How to enjoy it:

• Sandwich: Spread on rye bread and top with gherkins.
• Nibbles: Serve on small pieces of bread with pickled herring and cold beer.
• Cooking: Use a spoonful as a flavourful frying fat.
• Stews: Stir a little into soups and stews for extra richness.

Ingredients: pork fat 65 %, pork 23 %, onion 6 %, fried onion (onion, rapeseed oil, vegetable fat, wheat flour, salt), salt, dried vegetables in varying proportions (carrots, parsnip, dried tomatoes), sugar, hydrolysed soya protein, yeast extract, spices, garlic, celery, parsley.

May contain traces of gluten (rye), milk (lactose), egg, mustard seeds and sesame. Once opened, keep refrigerated.
