TRS Urd beans, also known as Urid or Urad lentils, are a popular ingredient in Asian cooking, especially in vegetarian dishes. These small white lentils are known for their creamy texture and mild taste.
Urd beans are an excellent source of vegetable protein, fiber and other nutrients. They are used in different ways in cooking. Whole urd beans can be used in stews, soups and curries, while split urd beans are used to make dosa, idli (steamed rice pancakes) and vada (fried balls). They can also be ground into flour and used to make pappadum (thin lentil rotis) or deep-fried snacks.
To cook urd beans, they are usually soaked in water for a few hours or overnight to reduce the cooking time and aid digestion. Then you cook them until they become soft and can be mashed or used in the recipe according to the desired consistency.
